Production orders and «Today in the kitchen»
Plan which preparations and dishes you produce and in what quantity: completing the order deducts the stock of its components, and delivering an order deducts what you sold.

What are production orders for?
Production orders are how you plan your mise en place: which preparations and dishes need producing and in what quantity, with their estimated cost. When you complete a production order, Miselup deducts the stock of its components and adds what was produced.
Where do I create a production order by hand?
Under Operations → Production, with the «New order» button. The order starts in the «Draft» status and takes a default name with its date. From that same screen you see all your orders with their status (Draft, Planned, Completed) and how many recipes each one has.
How do I add what needs producing?
Inside the production order:
- Open «Add recipe to produce» and search in the picker («Select a preparation or dish…»).
- Press «Add»: the recipe comes in as a line on the order.
- Adjust each line’s quantity.
- Check the «Estimated cost», worked out from each recipe’s cost breakdown.
- Repeat with the rest of your preparations and dishes; you can remove any line.
When the order is ready, press «Mark as planned». If you need to touch it again, use «Reopen as draft».
How do I close the order and deduct the stock?
With the order open, press «Complete and deduct from stock». Miselup applies the movements and hands you back a summary of what it did: how many consumptions it logged, how many stock entries for what was produced, and how many lines came out out of stock. The order moves to «Completed».
Where do I see the day’s production?
Under Operations → Production you have the «Today in the kitchen» shortcut. That screen brings together the preparations and dishes to produce today plus anything overdue and still not completed (expired orders are flagged as «Overdue»). Each order can be closed right there with «Complete and deduct from stock». If nothing is pending, you’ll see the notice that there’s no production for today.
Can I generate production from a sales order?
Yes. Under Operations → Sales, open a confirmed sales order and press «Generate production». Miselup creates the linked production order, consolidates the lines by recipe (several sale formats of the same recipe become a single production line) and moves the order forward to «In production». The order’s card keeps the «View production order» link.
Generation is all or nothing: if any line can’t be converted, the order isn’t created and Miselup lists what to fix under «Couldn’t generate production». The three reasons it can give you are:
- The recipe declares no yield to convert the sale format into a production unit.
- The format unit can’t be converted to the recipe’s production unit.
- The line quantity is invalid.
What if my dish or preparation isn’t on any sales order or on the Offering?
You still produce it and it still gets deducted. A production order made by hand doesn’t depend on a sale existing, or on an offering, or on a POS: you create it under Operations → Production, put in the preparations and dishes you are going to turn out with their quantity, and when you close it with «Complete and deduct from stock» Miselup deducts the components and adds what was produced. It is the normal route for a kitchen producing against its own service, with no ticket in between.
How do I deduct stock when I sell?
When you mark a sales order as delivered you can tick «Deduct assigned lots from stock». With the box ticked, the delivery deducts the intermediate preparations you delivered using the lots you assigned to each line; whatever those lots don’t cover comes out of the storeroom by nearest expiry date (FEFO). If you leave it off, the order moves to delivered and the stock stays as it was: the delivery only seals the status.
If you don’t keep your sales orders in Miselup —because the tickets reach you through your POS, over the phone or on WhatsApp— the other two routes are still there and work perfectly on their own: the production order made by hand, and the «Consumption / usage (−)» movement from Stock.
Known limits
- Production is included from the Pro plan up. If your plan doesn’t include it, the screen says so and takes you to the plans; you can see them on the pricing page.
- Generating a production order automatically starts from a confirmed sales order. For a catering event, create the production order by hand under Operations → Production with the preparations and dishes you need.
- When you complete an order, lines without enough stock are reported as out of stock in the summary: review them before calling the production done.
- A sales order only generates production once: if it already has a linked order, Miselup won’t create another.
- Final dishes don’t hold stock in this version: inventory keeps ingredients, intermediate preparations and consumables. Delivering an order deducts the intermediate ones; final dish lines are left undeducted.
- If a delivered preparation isn’t set up in inventory, that line isn’t deducted either: Miselup doesn’t invent stock you haven’t declared.
- A delivery is deducted only once per order: even if you come back to an order that was already deducted, it isn’t deducted twice.
