Free calculators and templates on the website: which to use and when to move to the app
Six free calculators and four free templates on miselup.pro: what each one does, which ask for an email, and when it is worth moving to the app.

What free calculators and templates are on the website?
The public Miselup website has free resources that are not app features. They are there for a quick sum, or to start from a file. The calculators and Excel templates are at miselup.pro/en/tools/; the HACCP template is in the HACCP section (link below).
There are six calculators and four downloadable templates, plus the food cost calculator for six specific foods. Each is detailed below.
Do they ask for a sign-up or an email?
It depends on the type of resource:
| Resource | Does it ask for your details? |
|---|---|
| Calculators | No. The page itself presents them as «no sign-up required»: type your figures and see the result straight away. |
| Blank HACCP plan template | No form: the page has a direct download button. |
| Excel templates (recipe costing, spec sheet, allergen menu) | Yes. They ask for your name, your email and a consent tick to receive the template and Miselup updates. After you send the form you land on a page with the download button. |
What does each calculator do?
They all calculate in your browser from the figures you type.
| Calculator | What it is for | Address |
|---|---|---|
| Food cost calculator | Enter the ingredient cost and the menu price with VAT (choose 0, 10 or 21%). You get the food cost %, the price before VAT and the gross margin per unit, with a traffic light. | /en/tools/food-cost-calculator/ |
| Menu price calculator | The other way round: start from the cost per serving and a target food cost (20 to 45%) and get the recommended menu price, the price before VAT, the margin and the equivalent multiplier. | /en/tools/menu-price-calculator/ |
| Cost per drink calculator | Bottle price and volume, ml per drink, waste and extras (ice, garnish). You get drinks per bottle, cost per drink, pour cost and, if you enter the drink price with VAT, the margin (it deducts a fixed 21% VAT). | /en/tools/cost-per-drink-calculator/ |
| Recipe scaling calculator | Servings in the recipe, servings you need, and an ingredient table you can extend. It works out the factor and the scaled quantities. | /en/tools/recipe-scaling-calculator/ |
| Break-even calculator | Monthly net revenue, food cost, other variable costs, fixed costs and operating days. You get break-even per month and per day, the contribution margin, and whether you are making or losing money. | /en/tools/break-even-calculator/ |
| Waste and yield calculator | Purchase price per kilo, gross weight and usable net weight. You get the waste %, the yield, the real cost per net kilo, the correction factor and what you lose on that purchase. | /en/tools/waste-yield-calculator/ |
Are there food cost calculators for specific foods?
Yes. The food cost calculator has a page for each food, with its own content: pizza, burger, tacos, sushi, kebab and paella.
What downloadable templates are there?
- Recipe costing Excel template: an
.xlsxfile with three sheets (costing with formulas, a yield table and a guided cover). It calculates waste, cost per serving and selling price. /en/tools/recipe-costing-excel-template/ - Recipe spec sheet template: an
.xlsxwith three sheets (spec sheet with costing and scaling, allergens covering the 14 EU allergens, and a guided cover). /en/tools/recipe-spec-sheet-template/ - Allergen guide for menus, with template: an
.xlsxwith two sheets, a matrix of preparations by the 14 EU allergens and a guided cover. /en/tools/allergen-guide-menus/ - Blank HACCP plan template: business identification, space for the twelve plan steps, and empty hazard and critical control point tables. You print it or download it as HTML to open in Word. It lives at /en/appcc/haccp-plan-template/.
The HACCP template is a sheet to complete: its page warns that you must confirm the rules that apply and approve the plan before using it, and that it does not prove that controls were carried out.
What changes when I move from the calculator to the app?
Calculators and templates solve one sum or one loose file. The app keeps everything connected. The real differences:
- A hand-typed figure versus a live costing. In the food cost calculator you type the cost yourself. In Miselup the cost comes from the lines of the sheet and the prices of your ingredients, and it recalculates when a price changes (see Your first recipe costing in 10 minutes).
- Waste per ingredient, not per purchase. The waste calculator solves one purchase. In the app you define the waste of the ingredient and your sheets cost what you actually buy (ingredient waste and yields).
- Scaling without losing the saved recipe. Scaling in the app recalculates the whole sheet, with its waste and consumables, and, with Mise Pro, take it to production (scaling servings).
- Inherited allergens. In the template you fill the matrix by hand and keep it updated yourself. In the app you declare allergens on the ingredient and each preparation inherits its own (allergen management).
- Break-even with your real figures. The break-even calculator is an indicative monthly estimate. In P&L management, which is in the Mise Pro plan, you load your fixed costs and your daily sales (fixed costs and budget).
- HACCP with records. The blank template is paper. The HACCP module stores records with author and date (the HACCP compliance module).
When is it worth moving to the app?
Stay with the calculators if you only want to check a price or a one-off sum. Think about the app when:
- you have more than a handful of preparations and purchase prices change;
- keeping several identical Excel files, one per recipe, is a chore;
- you want allergens, costs and margins to update on their own;
- you need to know every day whether you are making or losing money, not just at month end.
To work in the app you need a plan: creating the account is free, but using Miselup requires subscribing to one. The plans are Mise Essential, Mise Pro and Mise Pro HACCP; compare them in plans and upgrades, and see the overview in What Miselup is and what it includes.
FAQs and edge cases
Is the calculator traffic light the same as the app’s? No. The food cost calculator rates «excellent» up to 25%, «within the target range» up to 35%, «tight» up to 40% and «too high» above. In the app, the food cost of the sale formats is coloured green up to 30%, amber up to 40% and red above. When you compare, use each tool’s own reference (food cost and margin).
Is VAT handled the same way? No. The food cost calculator asks for the menu price with VAT and deducts it for you. Miselup’s costing works net: purchase and selling prices without VAT.
What happens to the figures I typed in a calculator? The calculators work with what you type on the page. If you move to the app, you set up your ingredients and prices there; to bring in recipes you already have written down, see the importer: it does not upload an Excel file directly, so export it to CSV or PDF first.
